BACKGROUND:
I purchased this kit on the 3rd April, 2016.
The snare is a slightly later B&H Pipper that I already had (along with the hardware and Ajax cymbals), but amazingly, the colour match of the snare could not have been a more perfect match to the kit, despite 56 years that have passed.
I am still researching the history of the kit at this time, but certainly it appears to be a late 1950s (circa 1959) and all original.
The previous owner had purchased it in 2010 and at some stage, a currently running shop in Spalding, Lincolnshire had sold the kit due to the inner shell of the floor tom bearing their stamp.
The serial numbers are all very close and although the tom hardware is Premier, it was clearly on the kit from the start.
Perhaps only the cowbell holder on the floor tom was added along the way, of course, impossible to know for sure.
The wrap does shown signs of a touring life with some cigarette burns and tom rash. It also has some darker patches in a few places, although I am not sure what would cause that? The wrap seams are pretty good for the age, just mild separation on the floor tom and bass drum.
Both the kit and the Pipper snare so require some TLC, so a restoration will be in order, but this is cosmetic and the kit, bearing the lovely Majetone Industries calf heads from James Yates (the previous owner of the 3 piece shell pack), is ready to rock!
The hardware and cymbals featured are also, all Ajax.
