ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The drums are the same style and year as Ringo Starr's Black 'Elegance' Ajax Edgware model kit that he was to use with the band he was in prior to The Beatles, which was called Rory Storm and the Hurricanes.
Ironically, my kit is in it's original 'Black Oyster' wrap, which is what Ringo later made famous on his Ludwig drums!
Over the years, the kit had been covered in a fablon material and sadly the more modern Pearl mount added, although thankfully no extra tom hole had been drilled, but naturally the Pearl mount expanded the foot print.
Ringo purchased his Ajax on April 23rd, 1958 when he borrowed the money (£57.00) from his Grandfather and purchased the kit at Hessy's Music Centre.
Ringo played his Ajax Edgware kit with the band for just over two years until he moved to Premier in July 1960.
Here are some live images of Ringo and the band with the kit.
